HOW WIDESPREAD IS THIS PROBLEM?

A total of 500 members of the Ontario Chiropractic Association participated in a telephone interview between August 2nd and August 9th , 2002.

Respondents were randomly contacted from a membership list provided by the Association.  Chiropractors were contacted at their offices during business hours and interviews lasted approximately 15 minutes. A sample of 500 is accurate to within ±4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

More than three-quarters (88 per cent) of all Ontario chiropractors agreed that working in the yard and garden are the most common sources of back and neck pain they treat during the warm weather season.

Consequently, a significant number of chiropractors find themselves discussing preventative measures such as the importance of stretching, correct lifting techniques with patients who are outdoor enthusiasts. This information is provided in addition to their recommendations of

chiropractic care as appropriate.
